Disability Practice Institute: Participants, providers and payers partnering to advance disability-competent care
Founded by three pioneering organizations, Commonwealth Care Alliance/Boston’s Community Medical Group, Independence Care System, and Community Health Partnership, the Disability Practice Institute serves as the nexus of innovation and dissemination of disability-competent care. The DPI’s work consists of defining, developing, and refining the Disability Care Practice model as the way to advance disability-competent care. A founding premise of the Institute is that persons with disabilities must be involved at every juncture of the work, and that any new care or care coordination option must first establish meaningful, consistent and respectful engagement with the individuals it is designed to serve. This we know: persons with disabilities often have a sophisticated understanding of the issues involved in their care, and if listened to, they can positively contribute to far better stewardship of resources.
